Mohan C. Thomas
Mohan Christopher Thomas was born in 1976 in Germany. His parents are from Germany and Sri Lanka. Before he became a contemporary dancer he was intensively trained in martial arts, finally participating at the German championships for Karate. In addition to his dancing, he is a passionate drummer and DJ for Techno-music.In 1997 he matriculated at the Folkwang Hochschule, Essen, Germany. Further, he took courses at The Limòn Company, New York and at The London Contemporary Dance School for Modern Technique and Choreography.
Since 1996 he has gained professional experience working with several choreographers, among others Sasha Waltz , Joachim Schlömer, Rodolpho Leoni.
From the beginning of 2002 he is working with Sasha Waltz, staging guest performances at places like Avignon Festival 2002 - Palais des Papes, Paris - Théatre de la Ville, Stockholm, St.Petersburg, New Delhi, Calcutta and others.
His own work is primarily about creating atmospheres and feelings through a variety of sound, dance and video. Those tools are based on mixtures of different ethnic and social systems. Characteristics of these elements are his own unique sound creations and the way he moves.
The solo „Instinkt“ choreographed by himself had its premiere at the International SIDance Festival 2000 in Seoul, Korea. His dance company TANZMOTO was established in December 2002. The first piece with the name orientation had its premiere in Bochum with its team of 11 members and was 2004 already invited in Tanzhaus NRW and Joyce SoHo Theater, New York City. Mohan was supported by Goethe Institut as a newcomer artist for his choreographic- and danceworks.
Mohan works successfully together with Royston Maldoom , the choreographer of „Rhythm is it!“. As a follow up- and substainibility project of the in 2005 realized Maldoom production „Per Elefant zum Mars“ in NRW, Germany, Mohan founded in Collaboration with the Theater of the City Marl the „Kids- and Youth Dance Company Marl“.

•M. Ravels „Bolero“ with 60 young dancers in cooperation with the Symphony Orchestra Münster
•B. Bartoks „Konzert für Orchester“ 100 young people dancing from Ludwigshafen and Mannheim in cooperation with in cooperation the philharmonic orchestra Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz (Project Director: Royston Maldoom)
•"Global Dance Projekt" 45 young dancers. A mix of Breakdancers, Streetdancers and Folkoredancers. A production of the cultural office of City Dortmund.

Since 2002 Mohan gives courses in contemporary dance and Yoga combined with kinesiological exercises as well as Alexander technique. These are basically designed for dancers and for other vocational groups between 20 and 60 years.
